Weather!
Re: Weather!
Very windy here now; it's been that way for some hours, but seems to have picked up even more.

Oh, and it's cold, too! I can feel the chill even though I'm inside.

Forecast for today: A blizzard that will dump 3-4 inches of snow on us. Forecast for next Sunday: Another blizzard that will dump 6-8 inches of snow on us.

Gee, you call that a blizzard I thought you Sweds were tougher than that, what with the Saunas and all.Ann wrote:Forecast for today: A blizzard that will dump 3-4 inches of snow on us. Forecast for next Sunday: Another blizzard that will dump 6-8 inches of snow on us.

In New England, if it aint at least a foot of snow, or better, we tend to ignore it. Although we have been softened up the last bunch of years with hardly any meaninful winter storms. Now people complain Greatly with a lousy half-a-foot Global warming I check the *like* box, now that I'm older.

<<A blizzard is a severe snowstorm characterized by strong winds and low temperatures. The difference between a blizzard and a snowstorm is the strength of the wind. To be a blizzard, a snow storm must have sustained winds or frequent gusts that are greater than or equal to 56 km/h (35 mph) with blowing or drifting snow which reduces visibility to 400 meters or a quarter mile or less and must last for a prolonged period of time — typically three hours or more. Snowfall amounts do not have to be significant.>>

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sauna wrote:
<<The word sauna is an ancient Finnish word referring to the traditional Finnish bath and to the bathhouse itself. The word suovdnji in Sámi means a pit dug out of the snow, such as a hole for a willow grouse. In Finland swimsuits, towels, or any other garments are rarely worn in the sauna. Families often go to the sauna together, which is not considered eccentric since family saunas are an old tradition. In these private saunas swimsuits or towels are never worn. A traditional Finnish sauna ends with a dip in a cool lake or 'avanto' (a hole made in the ice in wintertime) or with rolling in the snow. The idea is to cool off after the sauna (this must be done carefully, to minimize the risk of fainting). Cool-off time can end the sauna experience or it can be followed by another round or two.>>

Re: Weather!
The National Weather Service is predicting 4-6 inches of snow for Oklahoma City tomorrow. One of the local TV stations is saying 6-10 inches. It's supposed to start around midnight and snow all day, with the heaviest about 9 am. I hope all those who were dreaming of a white Christmas are happy. The only good I see is that it looks like we will miss the freezing rain and sleet.
Happy Holidays!

The weather guys are threatening us with a slew of nuisance stuff for the next few days. A little of dis and a little of dat.
Tis the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. That's because the neighbors cats got them all.

Re: Weather!
Beyond, thanks for spreading cheer with all those funny comments! I always like reading them!
Many of you appear to be getting a lot of snow. Some of you are happy about it and others not. Congratulations to those of you who are happy, and to the rest of you, I feel for you!
As you probably know, I hate the white stuff, and we got quite a bit of it two nights ago. But then the temperature rose rather sharply and it has stayed mild since then, and now the snow is gone. I'm very happy about that, of course.
I was very worried about the weather we are going to have next weekend. Two days ago we were told that temperatures would plummet and we might get 6-8 inches of snow. Now we are told that all that precipitation will fall as rain. You bet I heaved a huge sigh of relief, but it wouldn't surprise me if the weathermen and women change their minds once again and promise us snow.
In the end, of course, it doesn't matter what the weather reports say, only what the weather itself decides that it's going to do!

Anyway, yes, I heard that parts of Germany has had extremely mild weather recently. I believe Munich had 20C just the other day - in late December!!! That's incredible!!!
But some poor folks in Russia have temperatures that approach -60C!!! Can you believe it?
