During last night star observation at Korakio Oros, Pilida Corfu I was steering the beautiful dark nightsky when suddenly a Fireball so bright came up to the sky and scared me so much that μy heart was beating like crazy, Spectacular moment! Luckily I have put my Canon eos 40D with the 15mm fisheye lens at right place at the right time!!!

Asteroid 2012 XE54 and the Seagull

While taking the image from the previous post of NGC2403, Gil Esquerdo stopped long enough for us to go catch asteroid 2012 XE54, which was passing only 0.6 lunar distances from Earth at the time. Earlier we had plotted its position over the few hours it would be visible and found it would pass right in front of the Seagull Nebula (IC2177). When the time came, we framed the Seagull as planned and started taking 45-second exposures. Right on schedule the asteroid appeared! Six exposures captured it passing through the field at 600 arcseconds per minute! 9 more frames were added to bring out the Seagull in more detail. Total exposure time of 11.25 minutes. It was a blast to see this little space rock zip by!
Image with a Celestron 11" SCT equipped with an f/2 HyperStar lens and SBIG ST-2000XM camera. Captured on the morning of December 11th, 2012, at about 1:30AM from southern Arizona.

Re: Recent Submissions: 2012 December
What an incredible show we had here in Tucson, Arizona 12-12-12! I was able to see about 50 per hour.
Here are some composites of about 30 frames from a time-lapse I shot of the Geminid Meteor shower at Gates Pass in Tucson, Arizona on the morning of 12-13-12. You can see M31 (Andromeda Galaxy 2.5million light years away) at the left next to the Milky way.
These images took a lot of work as I had to scroll through about 400 frames and find which frames had shooting stars in them, then cut out every meteor and blend.
Camera Details:
Canon 5DMKIII
Carl Zeiss 21mm F/2.8 Distagon
ISO 3200, 20 seconds.
