APOD assessment poll #8
Re: APOD assessment poll #8
I think I found it through the NASA website, prior to the days of Google.
Keep up the great work!

Re: APOD assessment poll #8
Thank you for providing a daily image. My students and I use it often
Re: APOD assessment poll #8
As with so many others, the actual path to APOD has been lost in the mists of time. I first came across it way back in 2001 and have been a daily follower since. I believe the discovery may have been the result of me searching for either images or certain facts on (most probably) Yahoo.
Re: APOD assessment poll #8
Must be about 15 years ago my wife and I first found APOD as a link on the refdesk.com site. Like so many others here we love it and with the archive we never have to miss a day.

Re: APOD assessment poll #8
The discovery of APOD for me is lost in the mist of time past but it has been part of my every day for years. Rock on.
Re: APOD assessment poll #8
There was a small newspaper article about it 12-14 years ago. It has been my homepage ever since.
Re: APOD assessment poll #8
Hard to remember where I first heard about APOD. I'm guessing I read about it somewhere, so I selected Other.
Re: APOD assessment poll #8
Other. I also can't remember where or when I first heard of APOD, but it must have been sometime in the 90s. I've been visiting it daily ever since.
Re: APOD assessment poll #8
I've been visiting APOD since 1999. I don't really remember how I heard about the website. So I'm going to make up a true story about how I traveled back in time and told myself to check out this awesome website.
Re: APOD assessment poll #8
My dad turned me onto APOD when I was a kid at the dawn of the internet. Now I'm in my 30s and I show it to my little kids from time to time.
I answered "Google"
but like many others, it was sometime in the last millennium, and more likely an Alta Vista search that led me here. I look at every day's picture, I read the explanations and probably follow an average of 2+ links from those given. If I miss a day (and sometimes even if I don't), I scroll back through the calendar or use the previous-day links to browse. I would count this site among the best two or three in the world.
Re: APOD assessment poll #8
I had to think about this for a while. Starting going back in photos and then I remembered. I was reading an astronomy article on the internet and an APOD was tagged to the story about the doomed star Eta Carinae.

So the answer to this question would be: since about March of 2006. That very day I reviewed every previous APOD post. It's been bookmarked ever since. And I still visit almost everyday, of course I catch up on anything I may have missed. Thank you APOD for posting these wonderful views of our known universe.

Re: APOD assessment poll #8
I found APOD about 10 years ago while scanning over "refdesk" and probably haven't missed more than a few a days.
Re: APOD assessment poll #8
Probably chanced across it in a science article on physics or space on the web years ago.
Fantastic to be able to see such amazing and stunning pictures of the universe. Thanks and keep up the great work! Really appreciated!

Re: APOD assessment poll #8
I have been been following APOD for so long now that I honestly can't remember how I first found it.
Re: APOD assessment poll #8
Like many, I can't remember how I ran across it, but it was certainly before 2001.
I set the "Earth at Night" (11/27/00) as my wallpaper on my Win98 (1st edition) Compaq,
which is still operational and still has that background.
Tiled and not stretched essentially displays North America.
My displays at work have always been papered with favorite APODs.

I remember that I found APOD in Refdesk. After I discovered APOD I need to visit it almost daily. Thank you!
Re: APOD assessment poll #8
I believe I first ran across APOD as a widget for Mac platform computers. have loved it ever since.

I found it when surfing the web in Google for more information on Curiosity (when it was still under construction) and then got side tracked and arrived here. I've never looked back since. Amazing photo's and visit several times a day.

I'm not sure how I found APOD. Undoubtedly during some browsing activities (and I ONLY use Google search). Perhaps at a Linux news site.
However, I DO share the site with everyone I know - and more!
