The Cave Nebula, Sh2-155 or Caldwell 9, is a dim and very diffuse bright nebula within a larger nebula complex containing emission, reflection, and dark nebulosity. It is located in the constellationCepheus.

A very interesting region just above the great rift in the milky way. The dark cloud ressembles a golf club about to hit the red and yellow stars...

M8 and a couple of satellites

Here is one 25sec frame of M8 captured on the 25th of August.
Right through the middle you can see one satellite and in the bottom left-hand-corner there is another one ....

I try to convert to black and white and invert the labeled photo of Andromeda that I post yesterday. In this photo the details are more visible.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/terryhancock/7877892154/ My latest version of the Andromeda Galaxy was shot from my humble back yard observatory in Fremont MI using a very modest in size 4 inch refractor (TMB92SS), 2 different CCD cameras, a monochrome CCD and a One Shot Color CCD, the final image includes sub exposures using a 3nm H-Alpha filter to highlights the HII Regions and nebulae within the Andromeda Galaxy, some of which are larger than the Great Orion Nebula within our very own Milky Way Galaxy.
The image consists of 2 minute combined with 5 and 10 minute exposures for the luminance, 5 and 10 minute exposures for the RGB, 15 minute exposures with a one shot color CCD and finally 20 minute exposures using the 3nm H-Alpha filter using a monochrome CCD Camera.
Total Exposure Time is 18.7 hours.

Copyright: Dan Watt This was taken from my clubs (Orange County Astronomers) dark site in Anza, CA. Camera was a modified Canon 1100D cooled to 12c. Telescope used was an Orion 8" f3.9 astrograph (800mm focal length). Exposure time was 5.1 hours or 61x300sec @ ISO1600. Processing done in Pixinsight.

Pelican Nebula wide field. Captured from Corinthia, Greece at 24-26 August 2012. Image orientation is not vertical as for showing the pelican better, but horizontal as it comes from the camera. The whole region is filled with nebulosity.

Jupiter, Shadow of the moon Io from August 29th, 08:57ut, 09:29ut. Also on these images the moon Io is begining to approach the transition across jovian disc. (left=Lum..., right=RGB channels).
Equipment: LX200ACF 12 in. OTA, CGE mount, Flea3 Ccd, TeleVue 3x barlows, Astronomik LRGB filter set.

STS133 - Shuttle Discovery Stereoscopic "wiggle"
Copyright: Daniel Herron I had the pleasure of going to the 1st last roll out (she had two that mission due to external tank issues)of the Space Shuttle Discovery for her last mission, STS133. On her way to the launch pad she passed less than 60 feet from us and I snapped a lot of images as she passed. I took two of those pictures and created a stereoscopic "wiggle" GIF that makes it look like it is either taking off or in 3D!

I finally tried out the Comet Star Trail technique using some time-lapse frames over the largest aperture solar telescope in the world, The McMath-Pierce Solar Telescope at Kitt Peak Observatory in Tucson, Arizona. I also added in a still frame to give this photo more contrast of still-life and movement.

Have loved this galaxy since, let's see -- Lincoln was President, I think. This comes from the moderately light polluted skies above Littleton, Colorado, and comprises about 8 hours of LRGB data through an 80mm Stellarvue refractor with an ST-8e on a Paramount ME. Many thanks for viewing; it is a true labor of love.
