Just call me "geck" because "zilla" is like a last name.

Webster 1828 edition wrote:
METEOR, n. [Gr. sublime, lofty.]
  • 1. In a general sense, a body that flies or floats in the air, and in this sense it includes rain, hail, snow, &c.

    2. A fiery or luminous body or appearance flying or floating in the atmosphere, or in a more elevated region. We give this name to the brilliant globes or masses of matter which are occasionally seen moving rapidly through our atmosphere, and which throw off, with loud explosions, fragments that reach the earth, and are called falling stones. We call by the same name those fire balls which are usually denominated falling stars, supposed to be owning to gelatinous matter inflated by phosphureted hydrogen gas; also, the lights which appear over moist grounds and grave yards, called ignes fatui, which are ascribed to the same cause.

by Nancy Atkinson on August 15, 2012

<<A highly anticipated test flight of the X-51A Waverider scramjet ended abruptly after the experimental aircraft suffered a control failure and broke apart during an attempt to fly at six times the speed of sound. The test flight took place off the coast of California and the X-51A was dropped from a B-52 bomber, but an US Air Force spokesman said that a faulty control fin prevented it from starting its unique “airbreathing” scramjet engine. The Air Force is hoping this type of technology would be successful enough to eventually be used for more efficient transport of payloads into orbit and the Pentagon has touted its ability to deliver strikes around the globe within minutes.

The craft was carried to about 15,240 meters (50,000 ft.) by a B-52 from Edwards Air Force Base in California, and was dropped over the Pacific Ocean. Designers were hoping the Waverider would reach Mach 6 or more. The scramjet (short for “supersonic combustion ramjet”) is an air-breathing engine, where intake air blows through its combustion chamber at supersonic speeds. The engine has no moving parts, and the oxygen needed by the engine to combust is taken from the atmosphere passing through the vehicle, instead of from a tank onboard, making the craft smaller, lighter and faster. Some designers have predicted it could reach speeds of anywhere from Mach 12 to Mach 24. This could cut an 18-hour trip to Tokyo from New York City to less than 2 hours.>>

It's all neufer's fault :!: :!:
I read a recent post of his, where Popeye the sailor was asking what a 'jeep' was.(i think it's in an APOD thread) Well, a jeep(vehicle)runs on the road, or off the road. There is also a scrawny chicken like bird that runs fast, and is called a roadrunner. In cartoons, it goes beep-beep. In the Popeye cartoons, the jeep critter, which is partly 4-th dimensional, goes jeep-jeep. Thus there are two roadrunners. One goes beep-beep :?: and the other replies jeep-jeep :!: It's really a very good -bad- joke. At least -eye- think so. :lol2:

I think we should change meteor “showers” to meteor “bombardments”… after all, it’s not “raining”… those are burning rocks hurtling toward us at great speed!

The neutrino gag is too funny to be real. For a minute, I thought we were going down the road of " A proton orders a drink at a bar. The neutron bartender sets the drink down in front of the proton, who asks, "How much?" The neutron replies, "No charge." Glad we avoided that one, 'cause it's horrible, just plain horrible

Let's see - those were the days when GOOD TV actually went off the air at midnight to The Star Spangled banner, right? Followed by the tone, then nothing until 6 a.m. -- ahhh, the good old days.

I usually "Beep" a Jeep so I can go around it. I think the roadrunner used to go, "Meep, Meep." Never understood that - figured it was alien gobbledygook or something -- only the twisted minds of 1960s Warner Brothers will have the answer, yes?
