This image was processed before by the Hubble team but in a totally different way. In their image the hubble palette was used, using 3 images. For this image 6 different bands were used:
hst_06227_02_wfpc2_f658n_wf_sci
N2: used as yellow
hst_06227_02_wfpc2_f673n_wf_sci
SII: used as red
hst_06227_02_wfpc2_f953n_wf_sci
SIII: used as magenta/red
hst_06227_02_wfpc2_f487n_wf_sci
h-beta: used as lightblue
hst_06227_02_wfpc2_f502n_wf_sci
OIII: used as blue
hst_06227_02_wfpc2_f656n_wf_sci
H-alpha: used as green
The luminance was made from the SII and H-alpha channels.
In this way much more detail in the center can be seen than in the original hubble processing.

Casper - Apollo 16 Command Module Rebuilt
These days we all and especially NASA is celebrating tre 40th anniversary of Apollo Mission 16.
We decided to celebrate this event with an exhibition (ESPLORANDO) held in the town of Varese in Italy, where a team of amateurs called FOAM13 (http://www.foam13.it) rebuilt Casper with a big effort on making it very realistic, including a fully functional computer, the AGC connected to the two DSKYs.

The results was great, we had The privilage to invite General Charlie Duke Apollo 16 Moonwalker to unveil the exhibition and he had the desire to jump inside the capsule, he did it three times. So for the first time since when he returned back home from his wonderful journey to the Moon he was able to feel the emotions to get into the module and he did it together with his wife Dorothy.
I think that by showing Casper on APOD before the celebrations will be finished on April 27th, we Will make a nice gift to the three crew members, Mattingly, Young and Duke, for a great reminder of what the Apollo project meant for americans and for the rest of the mankind.
Sincerely,
Dario Kubler - FOAM13 Chief Apollo Designer

The Colors of Omega Centauri
http://www.pbase.com/rolfolsen
Copyright: Rolf Wahl Olsen With this image I particularly focused on bringing out the different colours of the stars in this massive globular. The cluster consists mainly of old red giant stars but with a sprinkling of very conspicous blue stars. These are 'blue stragglers'; stars that are too hot and massive for the cluster's otherwise old age. Given the ancient origin of the cluster these stars should have turned into red giants by now but it has been proposed that they are the results of mergers and mass transfers in the crowded environment of globular clusters. A main sequence star can exist for billions of years in the cluster and then later gain mass from a close orbiting binary, or as a result of a collision/merger, and thereby become more massive and hotter so that it now instead appears as a blue giant.

A partial eclipse from SDO Spacecraft! Yesterday i was reading data from the Solar Dynamics Observatory, to compare some of my photos of sunspots and solar prominences, when i saw this beautiful shot. The metadata of this image report: 21/04/2012 07:25:57 and it's possible to view it with software like JHelioviewer.(you can find it in the SOHO main page)I've just processed the original RAW data. Saturn- On April 21st showing its natural butterscotch colors and the remmants of the storm trail has faded and the shadow is re-appearing behind the globe more visible as time progresses and at the rings (center) shadows are now forming north & south of the rings being reflected on the face of the globe
