Air produces meteors? Oh, you mean that meteors entering Mars' atmosphere actually glow and have tails.

Wikipedia says: "The visible path of a meteoroid that enters Earth's (or another body's) atmosphere is called a meteor"

Meteors are what you get when a meteoroid ablates in the atmosphere, producing light- and that happens on Mars as well as the Earth.

Greek: μετέωρος metéōros "lofty; high (in the sky)" (from μετα- meta- "above" and ἐωρ eōr "to lift up").
