Re: Happy solstice and other holidays!
Thanks! And the same to all from me.
We had a lovely Solstice Eve last night, with friends over for dinner, and woke up today to a White Solstice- 8" of fresh powder. I went out this afternoon and shoveled off all our paths- almost 1/4 mile- which kept me warm despite the -12°C temperature. Now the Sun is coming out, and we can look forward to a few days of snowshoeing and horse riding in the snow, before it evaporates away.
My observatory, as seen from my office.

Ann, WOW! You are sumtin else! Even a double toroid for husband and wife to share--IF Robs married, that is. I noticed that bystander's picture doesn't show up unless it is clicked. Ya think that's because He's so -Apathetic
Chris, 8-inches of powdery snow and you're going to use snow shoes I didn't think anyone would use snow shoes until the snow got to about 1 1/2 to 2 feet, especially powdered snow.

Re: Happy solstice and other holidays!
8 inches of powder is plenty for snowshoeing- especially up and down steep hillsides, and after a day or two of compaction. Also, that's 8" on the flats- where it drifts, or in sheltered draws, it might be a couple of feet deep.Beyond wrote:Chris, 8-inches of powdery snow and you're going to use snow shoes :?: I didn't think anyone would use snow shoes until the snow got to about 1 1/2 to 2 feet, especially powdered snow.
It is rare for us to have more than a foot of snow ever. Most of the winter there is no snow on the ground at all, except under the trees on north slopes and in some draws.

What is the first image of? It is not showing up on my screen here, just a circle, a triangle, and a square on the upper left of the picture window.

I love the random cat in the snow.
Just call me "geck" because "zilla" is like a last name.
