Lunar eclipse over Cheyenne Bottoms, central Kansas. Four Great Blue Herons ignored me through most of the eclipse. This is obviously early on in the eclipse, and we had perhaps 1/2 eclipse here in central Kansas.

Composite Image of the eclipse taken from my deck in Central Oregon using several DSLRs.

I think that the image is a good example of how an "unreal" composite image can yield a
better representation of the visual eclipse experience than any single "real" image.

Red Moon among the Stars



As the moon passes through the Earth's shadow during a total lunar eclipse, its apparent brightness dramatically decreases, thus allowing very faint stars surrounding the moon to become visible. Such phenomenon is observed only during a total lunar eclipse. This image taken from the Seven Suites Hotel Observatory, Philippines, using a 4-inch refracting telescope and a DSLR at ISO 1600, 2-second exposure.
