Re: Recent Submissions
Hooray! A good color image of SN 2011fe in its host galaxy, M101!
And another favorite of mine, Adam Block, is back. NGC 613 is a very interesting galaxy, with a very long bar which suddenly turns into an out-of-plane spiral arm, almost like a cosmic dog wagging its tail!
Note how most of the pink star formation regions are located near the ends of the bar. The very long bar of NGC 613 is in the process of getting even longer!

I submit an image of the evolution of the Persistent Trains of a Draconids meteor. We observed it in Bayan Zhuri And Sumu, Inner Mongolia, China on the early morning of Oct 9, 2011 during the peak of the Draconids. However, the radiant was so low and we didn't see many meteors, but we did see a few fireballs. The image [shows] the persistent trains of one of the brightest we observed, about -6mag, brighter than Jupiter; the meteor was white in color, leaving a long trail on the sky. The persistent trains remained in the sky for half an hour.

Hunter's Moon meets the Sacra di San Michele

I took these two pictures this morning (October 12, 2011) from a location near Turin (Italy). This year’s Hunter's Moon is the farthest full Moon of 2011. Neverthenless, in the first picture it looks pretty big as setting next to the Sacra di San Michele, the monument located on a 962 mt mountain some 40 km from Turin and considered as the symbolic monument of the Piedmont Region. In the second picture, our natural satellite is setting behind the peaks of Alps illuminated by the rising Sun.
Best regards
Stefano
