Unable to save ESO webpages.

I like to save webpages having information that I can view offline at my leisure. It has however been the norm for some time now that European Southern Observatory (ESO) webpages brought up through links in the explanation to APODs cannot be saved (such as the ESO webpages brought up in the APOD of June 30 2011 for example). I wonder why ESO does that, as such as NASA and the Hubble Heritage Center allow their public viewable webpages to be saved? I thought I would mention it in case anyone else had wondered why, or knows why, the ESO does that.

I just went to the "this degree wide field of view" link in that June 30th APOD, and I had no trouble saving the page in the usual way. I'm guessing you're having a browser issue of some sort, though what sort I can't imagine.

I've not been able to save ESO webpages for some while now (certainly many weeks) but I have no problem with others, as I said, such as NASA and Hubble Heritage webpages. The ESO pages seem as if they are being saved but then I get an unable to save the webpage message. It's most odd.

I don't seem to have any problems saving ESO pages, with either FIrefox or IE9. Do you have a link to a specific page that is generating the error message for you?

This webpage could not be saved" message. I have IE9 and Windows Home Premium. It's strange but no hardship that I cannot directly save ESO webpages because when I have an ESO webpage open I can copy and then paste anything I want to.

With IE9, I get that error when saving as "Webpage, complete", which saves the top level HTML file and then all the related content is saved in a separate folder, with all the files associated in a way that makes it impossible to move or delete them separately. I don't get any error saving in that format using Firefox 4, however. And in IE9, I can save as a "Web Archive" MHT file, which I think is usually a better format, anyway, since you don't end up with all the baggage files.

Thanks Chris. I probably should be ashamed to admit it but I never realised that there were options on how to save webpages when saving them! Seeing that there were choices under a 'Save as file type' I tried to save an ESO webpage by selecting 'Web Archive, single file (*.mht)' and the ESO webpage then saved OK. I've absolutely though no idea what it is that the file types mean and without your input I would never have used the method. Cheers.
