I read somewhere that beauty is hard to achieve, because it requires perfection, and it takes so little to ruin perfection. Cuteness, on the other hand, appeals to our fondness for imperfection and, I think, an innocence, an openness and a kind of unguardedness. That's why babies are cute, because they have not learnt how to be cool, ironic and cynical.
Here are two of my favorite cute Youtube videos. You have almost certainly seen them before, because they were both monster hits when they arrived at Youtube. But so what? Cute is cute! A cute is a cutie is a cutie, as Gertrude Stein would have said, whether or not she was cute herself.
