Milky Way over Turret Arch

This is a shot of Turret Arch in Arches National Park. It was taken about 4 hours after sunset...the light near the horizon is from the moon that recently set. The bright planet to the left is Venus. Taken at 14mm with a 14-24 Nikon lens mounted on a Canon 5D II.

I have attached an image of Saturn I took from my garden with an off-the-shelf webcam. Conditions were reasonably good and the Cassini division, the northern storm and planets shadow on the rings clearly visible. It is remarkable how much the CCD age has changed things for astronomy enthusiasts in the last few decades. With a simple, inexpensive, off-the-shelf webcam and minimal skill fantastic details can be seen on the planet. The image compares my webcam Saturn image taken from my back garden (left) to one taken on August 26, 1979 by Pioneer (right). (Courtesy of NASA/JPL)- Attachments

Re: Recent Submissions
The picture of the moonlit(?) Mount Elbrus, with the Milky Way rising over it like ghostly fire and smoke, is most evocative.

Re: Recent Submissions
A couple of recent ones I took of the 4 planets and the moon. From 01 & 02 May, both at around 0525. Taken from Terranora, far north coast NSW, Australia. How I came to take them was quite funny.
I woke up at my usual early worm time of 4.30am on Mayday, ambled out to the computer, played about for a bit, then for some reason had a look at my Stellarium program, which showed me THIS conjunction of 4 planets and the moon. You never saw anyone scramble for the camera and tripod so fast in your whole life!

I hope I did that right.
