Re: Lunar Eclipse (2010 December) Images
Well, we had quite a few clouds last night but there was a short hole in the sky.
This was taken with the CPC 11 inch Hyperstar system .
The exposure was 110 milliseconds. Maybe the shortest exposure I have ever taken of a lunar eclipse

NASA IOTD - Moon Shadows
Moon Shadows
A total lunar eclipse is seen as the full moon is shadowed by the Earth on the arrival of the winter solstice, Tuesday, December 21, 2010 in Arlington, VA. The eclipse lasted about three hours and twenty-eight minutes.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth lines up directly between the sun and the moon, blocking the sun’s rays and casting a shadow on the moon. As the moon moves deeper and deeper into the Earth's shadow, the moon changes color before your very eyes, turning from gray to an orange or deep shade of red.

Re: Lunar Eclipse (2010 December) Images
Here's an image I took late last night from the plains of eastern Colorado just south of Limon. The diminished moonlight made M35 and the Orion Nebula easily distinguishable in this 2 minute exposure and light clouds gave the stars a nice warm glow despite the freezing weather. The image is a composite of two images to allow for the differences in relative brightness, the exposure used for the moon image was 20 seconds. It was pretty unreal.

Re: Lunar Eclipse (2010 December) Images
Here is the 2nd image of the lunar eclipse I took with the Hyperstar. Ok, as you might have guessed this is an composite. I took a 0.1 second exposure of the moon. Then right after a 20 second exposure of the eclipse which massively over exposure the moon. In Photoshop I created a few mask to filter out the over exposed area and let only the stars and nice eclipse image through. Painfully cleaned up the area of glow around the stars that were there.

Re: Lunar Eclipse (2010 December) Images

Great shots so far! This one is a single exposure. I think the moon appears extra red here because of the Denver pollution.

Here's one more shot. While the moon was only half-eclipsed, I exposed for the dark, red part of the moon and let the bright part get way overblown.

Grant, the overexposed moon looks almost as if it has a corona; interesting to see.
beyond, clearly you have forgotten about the Moons of our Solar System thread; lots of mooning going on there!
So many gorgeous pictures! It's a pleasure to see them.
