APOD: Home from Above (2010 Nov 15)
Re: APOD: Home from Above (2010 Nov 15)
I agree with "Benibouftou"... I think it's in the south Pacific with Chile and the Andes towards the top. You can see mountains if you enlarge the pic; they stertch the length of the horizon in the left window and a small part of the left side of the window where her arm is.

Over Bering Sea

Amazing that we have progressed to the point where we can sit around in jeans and a tee-shirt while orbiting the earth.

I say the east coast of Mexico.
You ARE going to tell us what the answer is??

I see a large rugged land mass with many coastal islands. It could be Vancouver to Alaska, or Maine to Nova Scotia. But then, I still see canals on Mars. Hey wait, I think I see Grandma’s house.

I have no idea where around the world Dr. Dyson was. I'm wondering what this, cropped from the full-sized image, is, though.
And here's a crop from the image on the APOD page; smaller, so there's more of the image in the crop.
What is going on there?

Owlice, I just created an account to ask the same thing. Volcanic eruption? Nose print in the glass?
Re: APOD: Home from Above (2010 Nov 15)
Nvisible, welcome to Asterisk!
Doesn't look like a nose print, and that'd be some volcano. So weird; I don't know that I've ever seen something like that on a "looking down at Earth" image.

I think it is Mexico through the round window, curving away to the Gulf coast above, and Yucatan to the lower right.
Re: APOD: Home from Above (2010 Nov 15)
In the top window, you can see part of northern Canada I learned about this

That is probably just a booger smeared on the glass no more no less!!owlice wrote:I have no idea where around the world Dr. Dyson was. I'm wondering what this, cropped from the full-sized image, is, though.

It appears to be to the west of the Yucatan Pennensula, Mexico, probably over the Pacific.
Re: APOD: Home from Above (2010 Nov 15)
Atlantic Ocean, off the west coast of Africa. That's my guess.
Re: APOD: Home from Above (2010 Nov 15)
Since she is looking wistfully, and since she's born/raised/schooled in California, my guess is that her eyes are focused there. Perhaps Central America and northern South America in the lowest porthole?

Has anyone else seen that projection coming out of the earth in the upper left viewport? i thought it was my monitor, but upon zooming in and scrolling it looks like something leaving the earth's atmosphere

The round window (shades of Playschool, any UK readers?) shows the isthmus between the south-west of France and the Iberian peninsula, with the Bay of Biscay to the left, and the Med to the right, with the Balearic Islands visible at three oclock of the window.

And another QAPOD Robot wrote: Dr. Dyson is a lead vocalist in the band Max Q

Any visual reference to determine terrestrial oceans by crossing the ISS at the time of the photo.
The photo on the other hand, I feel great. You are here as well, no doubt, also could be in Vogue.
Ann referred to as well, that picture has lots of information of the human race.
Greetings

Does anyone know what the white plume is? It's out of the top window rising just above the atmosphere.
