Now I am galaxy number...
Now I am galaxy number...
...600!
This is the last "this person is a galaxy" thread I will set up for a while, I promise.
But this is my 600th post, and NGC 600 is a nice galaxy, so I can't resist. Right now I'm galaxy NGC 600! I'm pretty and blue!
Look at the bar! Note the blue bar ends. There has been star formation here recently.
The picture above is a g-r-i SDSS image, so let's look at a R-G-B image of the same galaxy:
Hmmm, the two images appear to be mirror images of themselves. We have one clockwise and one anti-clockwise version of NGC 600. Interesting.
With a green smile, I'm raising a blue toast to myself!
Have a blue drink from the blue bar!
(So it's kind of aqua-colored... but...)

Make exceeded by 100 the number needed to be mad, according to the rules of the place.
Congratulations on the 600!

Well aren't I boring! (At this moment, at least.)

I don't know if you are boring, Rob. Could be that you are just being distant!

Re: Now I am galaxy number...
You're right, I was keeping my distance. But I've decided to creep a little closer, just to see what these human beans are all about. I'm feeling much clearer now.

Re: Now I am galaxy number...
Rob, you're looking a bit convoluted, but still really really handsome today! I so, so much prefer your spiral style over... well, over this guy's 'do, for example!

Re: Now I am galaxy number...
how about you guys convince geckzilla to write a script that puts NGC or similar link on post count at this board?
Re: Now I am galaxy number...
Well, NGC objects are, almost always, very good looking.
So why not use VCC (Virgo Cluster Catalog) numbers? Sure, there are only ~2000 of them, but they are very diverse, ranging from some of the most spectacular galaxies to boring dwarf ellipticals.
For example, I will shortly be VCC 45:
(sorry, not centered).

Perhaps instead of VCC objects you would prefer Messier ones
as of this last post you would have been M42 and be fast approaching a most attractive M45

Re: Now I am galaxy number...
So maybe we get to pick and choose our catalog? As relative newbies M numbers will flatter us; beyond 110, a judicious choice between VCC, NGC, and IC should produce something nice ...
Re: Now I am galaxy number...
I forgot to say that, while I usually want to be a galaxy, I wouldn't mind being NGC 604 in M33 in Triangulum. NGC 604 is a humongously large star formation region bursting with O stars. So what if I'm almost twenty posts past my prime as NGC 604? So what if the picture I'm posting here is false color? I don't care: I used to be NGC 604, the cluster is fantastic, and the picture is eye-candy beautiful!

Ann,
As a woman it is your perogative to be anything you wish once you have already been it.
You could be anything from 001 to 624 right now but as for 625...we'll have to wait for your reply

BMAONE23! Now you are NGC 2264! You are looking splendid today!

Re: Now I am galaxy number...
Ah! Finally I get to be a big beautiful Messier galaxy, Messier 74 - well, NGC 628, that is!
Sorry that the picture is a bit big. But if you look at the large version, you get to see a supernova "before" and "after". I notice that the galaxy has just become an itty bitty tad bluer, since it just shed one of its red supergiants in a supernova II-P explosion!

Re: Now I am galaxy number...
I should put some custom profile options in. How about... favorite space object? Hehe...makc wrote:how about you guys convince geckzilla to write a script that puts NGC or similar link on post count at this board?
Just call me "geck" because "zilla" is like a last name.
Re: Now I am galaxy number...
my favorite space object is earth. I love it so much that I live there.
