Yikes! Please fix your quoting... it is very hard to figure out what to respond to. None of your new comments should be inside quote tags!

I prefer your quoting system, but do not know how to perform this function. There are two different "quote buttons" on the screen. When I activate the top quote button it just highlights everything inside its related box and indicates the existing quote signs. I came from the other generation. Perhaps you could provide the path for performing this function.

Just think of the quote tags like they were parentheses. Normally, there is no need to nest them. So you just need a single set of tags around the bit you are responding to: <quote>This is the quoted bit.</quote> (I used angle brackets, to keep phpBB from actually interpreting the tags, but they are actually in square brackets). Delete all the stuff that you aren't responding to directly, since it keeps the post shorter and clearer. All your own (new) responses should be completely outside any quote tags, which will make it clear that they are in fact new, and not requotes of something you already said.

So a post might be constructed like this (again, replace the angle brackets with square brackets):

<quote="dougettinger">How do I use quotes?</quote>
You do it like I explained before.
<quote>I'm an old dog that needs to learn a new trick.</quote>

These are fairly large and somewhat "slow to load" files.

When you post such large files you might consider
using "img2" or "img3" rather than just "img" since
it takes just the same amount of time to load anyway
but one can, at least, simply left click on them to get
the full resolution (rather than using the view image option). =>

floats the image to the right with the text wrapped around it to the left. float=left does the
same thing, but the positions are reversed. To clear the floating margins, use [clear][/clear]

You can also use it inside quotes.

Hehehe, I quite enjoy seeing how far some of you go in formatting your posts so that they are nice looking. In the past I've put BBCodes into other forums and no one even bothered to use them. You guys not only use them all but have gone the extra mile and actually asked for even more BBCodes in your arsenal!

I suspect she is asking for the HR (in HTML code) -- a simple horizontal line of choosable width and thickness, used to set apart different parts of a message.

Doug, a "horizontal rule" is a line, used, as Rob said, "to set apart different parts of a message." For examples of how I would use these, please see any Recent Submissions or Poll thread in the Observation Deck forum. I've been using underscore; having a BBCode instead would be useful.

If you just wish to quote the first sentence in the first of 3 paragraphs is there an easy way to highlight just that sentence to have it copied on the screen?

If there is, it's a secret. I just hit the quote button, then delete all the parts I'm not responding to -- as I just did with this quote from your post above.

I followed the thread about how to post an image. I placed a url to a PBase image of mine and it does not show the image in the post only a white box with a red X in it.

The image was under 400 pixels wide as per the rules and was only about 180kb in size. Also there is mention of uploading an image as an attachment yet I
can't see any attachment button above? How do you do that?

How do you show an image in the post itself?
