Is that how it's done?Amir wrote:congrats alter-ego! your turn now. choose a crop for #37.
What are the rules? I pick form APODs, and can crop. Nothing else?
I may be slow compared to what you all are used to; I check this forum a couple times a day. I'm happy to play, but I don't want to frustrate you with waiting for me

Re: What is it? Space mystery object #36
In general, you can pick as much or as little of an APOD as you like, drawing your material from (1) the image on the APOD main page for a given date, (2) the full version of the image that is usually available by clicking on the (sometimes) smaller main page image, or (3) a video frame or rollover image presented as the APOD. You should use an image editing tool that doesn't muck around with the color, you shouldn't change the resolution, and you should resave your crop with a high enough JPEG quality setting that you don't introduce new artifacts not seen in the original image.alter-ego wrote:What are the rules? You can look back at some of the past mystery object posts to see how it works.

Re: GRED: Double slit with sharp eyed intruder
I've actually done this with a very low power laser and welding glass. I wanted to know if I could see the laser being brighter or darker as I moved along it. So I vote based on that.
Edit: Beyond, that's just an artifact of how the diagram is drawn. You're seeing a side view, not a top view.

There are a few hours left for me to edit the mystery picture. If there is a voice of consensus out there, I can re-crop the picture to show a teense more that might be more helpful in visual searching.alter-ego wrote:I think this one is fair -- cropped only. Sorry it's not exciting

No, save it for a hint. Maybe not even your first.alter-ego wrote:There are a few hours left for me to edit the mystery picture. If there is a voice of consensus out there, I can re-crop the picture to show a teense more that might be more helpful in visual searching.
There is a diagonal from top left to bottom right. Is that of some significance in the picture as a whole?

Re: What is it? Space mystery object #37
It certainly is in my opinion. It wasn't the first thing I noticed, but it is directly related to the focus of the APOD.bystander wrote:No, save it for a hint. Maybe not even your first.

I believe, without a doubt, that there won't be any question in your mind you've found it when you see this APOD.swainy wrote:Hi alter-ego

Re: What is it? Space mystery object #37
I believe I may have found it, possibly? It maybe isn't but I have literally spent HOURS looking for it and this is the best and closest match I've found.
I think you;ve been sneaky in flipping it. And I think its quite a close crop due to the grainy nature of the photo, so this one makes sense to me.

I don't think so. It isn't allowed to reorient or resize an image, and he indicated in the original post this is just a crop.wonderboy wrote:I believe I may have found it, possibly?
