The M51 image is very interesting, as I can compare it to earlier ones I have. I ended up turning down the saturation of the colours by about 50% since it was much too flashy for my desktop as is.

There were many nice images here! :D

The annotated image of Leo, Cancer and Gemini with their mainstays and visitors was very nice and interesting. Vega and the twisted meteor trail made a nice couple. The Stonehenge image was beautiful and a good reminder of the fact that this monument was built at least partly to be a solar calender, so it was particularly fitting that it would be a solstice image. Also I really liked the morning mists enveloping the ancient stones, so that this awesome construction seems to be half lost in the mists of time.

The Markarian's Chain and M 87 was a more than OK image. What I personally like best about it is that an Inadvertant Bot Sire is there right smack in the middle. 8-)

The M 51 image is also good, and it's interesting to see those long trails of faint old stars that have been flung right out of the galaxies due to tidal effects. And Rob may have turned down the colors of this image, but I certainly didn't!

And the Arp 194 image was awesome. Talk about interacting galaxies and raging star formation!

Owlice,

This is my favorite image from your collection on this thread. The Cigar Galaxy provides such vivid pictures and can really open up minds. I showed this to a couple of kids at the Boys and Girls club and it was awesome to see how it captured their attention. Good find!

Riley, I'm glad you like the image. It was submitted to APOD for consideration by the astrophotographers; I post a subset of submissions here at Asterisk. There are many great images submitted; Asterisk lets us see some of them, and yay! for that!
