Butterfly Eyes

I had no idea until I saw this that some butterflies have striped eyes; cool, but kind of freaky, too!

That slightly-out-of-focus blob with the blue area is this butterfly's eye. I thought it was an artifact or some such so checked other pics, but it's not: that's his eye. It seems gigantic to me!

Not many bugs are considered "cute", but I think this little fellow qualifies.

That's a really great shot! It looks like it took a liking to you. Even if your camera wasn't handy (was it??), the bug probably would have happily hung around.
