Sunspots 2009

Post by rockinho » Fri Jan 29, 2010 11:38 am

Hi,
I observed in 2009 for the first time sun spots with an adequate filter. Where can i find the data, when the cycle gets to the maxima? When was the minima? Is there a official website where I can find information like that?
Thanks!
Robin

PS.: I filmed the sun spots on June 1st, 2009

Nice! I know sunspots have been fairly rare lately so I went ahead and cross checked against SOHO's MDI:

That's a nice sonnenflecken. :)

With any luck the next solar maximum will happen in 5-6 years, though some say it will be an exceptionally long minimum so it could take longer. Don't expect it tomorrow.

Here is SOHO's website with near realtime data:

It's kind of a maze to navigate, unfortunately. But you can figure it out eventually.
Just call me "geck" because "zilla" is like a last name.

Thanks for the link!
I didn´t expected that the pictures are updatet so often a day. Is there a list where I can see the biggest recorded sunspots? Because I searched for the sunpots ~5 years ago (where the last maxima should have been, right?)...they are really much bigger then the spots i recorded, the size is amazing! ;)
Kind regards,
Robin
