Hello All,

I wish all of you well this Holiday season. May there be progress toward peace and good will toward each other on this planet so that, hopefully, if the time should ever come that we have to leave our fair Earth we will have accomplished a true treasure to offer other inhabitants of this Universe should there be any.

BTW, ASTRObot is the only answer to this one.

"Apparent" is absolutely correct! I honestly had no idea. In retrospect the name was probably too obvious not to have been used already. I should've guessed as much.

It's amazing how different connextions people have with astronomy in their minds.
If talking about RAPOD; the starting point for it was BITOD, because it is "nice style", isn't it? I wanted to find a rhyme for it so if someone will write odes about APOD (and astronomy) then he might use it.
If compared to original "robot", RAPOD is quite similar: In many language groups, A/O does not make much difference at all. Then, if we just change B/P and T/D ... there we go ... a "robot" (short for Chech "robotnik", "worker" afaik) became easily RAPOD ... so, it might work ...

At the beginning of each APOD, members are told the day's "secret word"
issued by APOD's Conky the Robot and are instructed to "scream real loud"
every time a member of the Asterisk posts that word.

Hah, I like that one a lot, orin. But I'm biased because my great-grandfather's name was Otto and even though I never knew him I have a bit of an affinity for him. He dug up native American graves as an anthropologist but is more well known for his nursery and work with crepe myrtles. I'm guessing the whole digging up graves thing didn't work out too well for him was (is?) pretty taboo. It's too bad I don't know more about him.

Ah! Love your grandpa anyway; I'm sure he believed that he was acting in the best interest of science.I never was real good at checking out my roots. My sister is into that; so I let her do the researching. Sometimes it's better not to know about such things.

Anyway; I got the idea from what the robot does, and I like it a lot also. I think it would be great if they really did give the robot a name though. It would give it a little personality!
