9-9-09 nightsky what did I see?

Post by mlsopalm » Wed Sep 09, 2009 2:24 am

Tonight over WISCONSIN I saw 2 bright lights traveling from SW to NE at a high rate of speed. The 2 lights followed the same track with no sound and no blinking lights. The lights were not as high as high as a satellite would be. I saw them at 2015 hrs and they were in view for about 5 or 6 min. from horizon to horizon. What did I see?

Navigation lights on a plane built BEFORE March 11, 1996 :?:

<<Aircraft navigation lights are placed in a way similar to that of marine vessels, with a red navigation light located on the left wingtip leading edge and a green light on the right wingtip leading edge. A white navigation light is as far aft as possible on the tail or each wing tip. Navigation lights in civil aviation are required to be operational and to be turned on from sunset to sunrise. High-intensity white strobe lights are part of the anti-collision light system, as well as the aviation red or white rotating beacon. The anti collision light system (either strobe lights or rotating beacon) is required to be operational and to be turned on for all airplanes built after March 11, 1996 on all aircraft operations.>>

If they appeared to be a light source followed by a brighter light source and this appeared to be near 11 pm then it was likely to be the Shuttle and ISS crossing your location.

Almost certainly you saw the ISS and recently detached space shuttle. Here's a map of their path from Madison, WI. They crossed from 20:13 to 20:20, southwest to northeast, and the time and position would only shift a little if you were elsewhere in the state.

We see the same thing! We see it all summer long. I have been trying to tell everyone that it is airplanes, but no one believes me. I have seen them during the day running the same pattern, that is the only reason I think this way.
