Brief discussion of APOD 070126:

NGC 1313 is somewhat rough-cut for a barred spiral, isn't it? This APOD shows only the inner region, but even a picture of the whole galaxy looks loosely structured to me.

Apodman's picture shows a definite central bar with two (albeit very short) spiral arms coming off the bar. May be a young galaxy??? I wonder how much more spiral structure might be revealed in other wavelengths.

BTW: apodman's picture is also APOD: 2006 Nov 28 - Unusual Starburst Galaxy NGC 1313.

See: ESO: Topsy-Turvy Galaxy: VLT Image of Starburst Galaxy NGC 1313
The captivating appearance of this image of the starburst galaxy NGC 1313, taken with the FORS instrument at ESO's Very Large Telescope, belies its inner turmoil. The dense clustering of bright stars and gas in its arms, a sign of an ongoing boom of star births, shows a mere glimpse of the rough times it has seen. Probing ever deeper into the heart of the galaxy, astronomers have revealed many enigmas that continue to defy our understanding.

Larger region of the sky around the starburst galaxy NGC 1313 showing the larger scale disturbance of the galaxy. The galaxy shows some large deformations in the lower right part of the image, while diffuse matter is also present at the top of the image. All this signals a very tormented past which could be at the origin of the burst of star formation.

Perhaps NGC 1313 is an obvious warning from those not so friendly but extremely industrious space alien cosmic industrial engineering warrior types.

… from cosmic eyes to this alien message implication… “Humans, take a look at what you call NGC 1313. This is just a small example of what can happen to your precious Milky Way!… It only required two meager X1 disruptors to topsy-turvy NGC 1313… Ha! And what a wimpy name for a galaxy ‘Milky Way’… it would be no challenge to disrupt your serene little galaxy and smash your whiny little planet.”

The Coneheads were an alien family, natives of the planet Remulak, who found themselves stranded on Earth. When questioned by Earth neighbors as to their strange behavior, they inevitably replied that they were "from Remulac, a small town in France".>>

The English lost and King Harold was killed.>>

<<The Knights Templar were a monastic military order founded in Jerusalem in 1118 C.E., whose mission was to protect Christian pilgrims during the Crusades. Over the next two centuries, the Knights Templar became extraordinarily powerful and wealthy. Threatened by that power and eager to acquire their wealth, King Philip of France secretly ordered the mass arrest of all the Knights Templar in France Friday the 13th of October 1307.>>

Explanation: Like grains of sand on a cosmic beach, individual stars of barred spiral galaxy NGC 1313 are resolved in this sharp composite from the Hubble Space Telescope's Advanced Camera for Surveys. Hubble's unique ability to distinguish individual stars in the 14 million light-year distant galaxy has been used to unravel the fate of star clusters whose bright young stars are spread through the disk of the galaxy as the clusters dissolve. The exploration of stars and clusters in external galaxy NGC 1313 offers clues to star formation and star cluster evolution in our own Milky Way.

[Apollo 13] launched on April 11, 1970 at 13:13 CST. On [April 13] a fault in the electrical system of one of the Service Module's oxygen tanks produced an explosion which caused a loss of electrical power and failure of both oxygen tanks.>>>>

Actually, it was a ULX-1 and a ULX-2 with a SN 1978K thrown in for effect.

If you listen carefully to the Budweiser jingle, you can hear where two different audio tracks were spliced together. So we're hearing the first part of the Budweiser ad during "Days of Our Lives"; and then the second part of the same ad, but airing on ABC.]>>

* The removal of several very short scenes (totaling some 30 seconds):
  • . Neary driving his truck through a tunnel while chasing the UFOs

. A few seconds of Neary watching Days Of Our Lives on TV after completing his Devil's Tower model

. And a brief shot of Neary and Jillian running towards a helicopter.>>

Not really. It was grandma's favorite soap. She never missed a day. A big joke in my family I can't ignore if I try.
