Today's picture was awesome of the slab of rock building up in the crater of Mt. St. Helens. But it's not really an astronomy picture.

And hey, it's an APOD that is close to where I live. Sort of. Yay, NW, w00t.
I found a cool gallery of photos from one of the series of small eruptions not long ago. It's how the mountain appears from my neck of the woods, Portland (roughly 60 miles from the mountain as the Nazgul flies).

I watched the 2 sec. movie it was quite interesting. Wish it had a few more frames.

Exceedingly cool, but should have been on epod
Mt. St. Helens is very cool; before the latest eruption sequence restricted flights below 9000', I flew over it and even a little down into the crater a few times: spectacular (none of my pics turned out as well as the apod one).

It's not an astronomy pic but it does fall under geology and perhaps planetary science. Besides, it is cool!
