Can You Recommend A Good Café?

Post by apodman » Tue Nov 04, 2008 9:53 pm

Along with the server move, titles and guidelines have changed.

The latest name for the "Asterisk* Café" is "Discuss Anything Astronomy Related" with "Asterisk Café" as a subtitle.

I would miss contributors' fond references to the "Café" if the word slips from the title.

I googled "Astronomy Café", and it looks like someone is already using it.

I would like to see a snazzy title (something easy to say and refer to) and maybe a short descriptive subtitle.

TPTB might be open to suggestions at this time, so I suggest you all get creative and report back.

How about Asterisk Cafe w/ Discuss Anything Astronomy Related as a subtitle.

Sounds very familiar. I like it. Maybe I'm misreading the tea leaves, but the swapping of the titles gave me the impression somebody is looking to get away from "Asterisk".

It does seem like a good idea though.

A* Café

or

Sgr A* Café

or

Sagittarius A* Café

(maintains the asterisk)
(is appropriate to the subject matter)
(assumes its rightful place in the center of the galaxy)

A* Café is also sufficiently ambiguous to stand for Astronomy as well as maintaining the asterisk and paying homage to the mysteries of black holes.

The comparison of this forum to a black hole refers only to positive connotations.

Are you sure? :)

I vote for A* Café, Sgr A has an unlikely connection to the Smoking Gun Research Agency (SGRA).

Does this present an opportunity to perpetrate a deception on new members? Profile questions on the membership form could misdirect those who would be happier elsewhere. :)

Since the "Discuss" link comes from there, how about APOD Cafe?

I saw a nice cafe the other day in a Van Gogh painting, outdoor tables beneath a tarpaulin overhang .. swirling galaxies in the sky .. just a nice spot for a coffee, beer or wine.
