Has anyone considered that the two "spikes" of light from the planet, (not the moon) may be rings?

http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap040731.html I will try to track the source for this, but there were calendars printed in early last century which colored the moon blue if it was the second one in the same calendar month. Don’t know if this was a result of term blue moon, or the derivation for the term. ...
