Re: OSIRIS-REx: Asteroid 1999 RQ36 (Bennu)

After sampling the soil, OSIRIS-REx should launch a capsule with the primary matter of the solar system towards the Earth. If all goes well, it will fall in the US state of Utah at the end of September 2023.

Re: Astronomers Crack the Case of the Blue Ring Nebula

According to astronomers, the star in the center of the Blue Ring is surrounded by a disk of dust. It absorbs starlight and re-radiates it in the infrared range. The researchers believe this disk sliced the debris cloud surrounding the star in half, creating two cone-shaped clouds that extend in opp...

Re: Interstellar travel

Hi, I was wondering if there are any goals/ideas for exploring outside of our solar system following voyager 1? Today the duration of Voyager-2's flight is more than 43 years, the device is located at a distance of 125.65 astronomical units from the Earth and is considered the second man-made objec...

Re: NASA: Dragonfly Mission to Titan

The launch of the spacecraft is scheduled for 2026. Once on Titan in 2034, the Dragonfly will have a lifespan of at least two and a half years. A battery is responsible for the power supply of the probe, which will be charged from a radioisotope source. Dragonfly cameras will broadcast images as the...

Re: APOD: Cassini Approaches Saturn (2020 Apr 19)

By September, the Cassini's fuel supply should come to an end and the probe's mission will be completed. The spacecraft was first launched on September 15, 1997. Thanks to Cassini we found out that the Titan moves away from Saturn which means that Titan can swallow the Earth in the Future.

Re: NRAO: Moon Mission to Explore Early Universe

DAPPER is a spacecraft made for the mission that will hunt for radio signals that were emitted during the so-called "dark age" of the Universe. The spacecraft is still at the design stage. Most likely, it will be delivered to the Moon during one of NASA's missions, which, as planned, will ...

Re: APOD: Descending Toward Asteroid Bennu (2020 Oct 12)

It turned out that its soil is rich in organic matter and carbonates. The researchers were able to identify two populations of boulders on the asteroid, which differ in strength, both types having lower thermal inertia than expected. Many boulders have been seen with bright veins ranging from 3 to 1...

Re: NASA: Perseverance (Mars 2020) - Next Generation Rover

The rover mission is not only to collect the recourse and make exploration from Mars - but it also has to deliver the material from which the astronaut's suit is built in order to check how the Mars atmosphere influences it. Btw, the rover has a microphone so for the first time in space exploration ...
