Re: Bugs? Problems? Report them here!

Hello everyone! I want to see what APOD is about on 2007 May 22. But unfortunately it requires flash player and Chrome doesn't support it anymore. https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap070522.html Does anyone know a solution? I tried ctrl+U to see the page's source. I tried to find a flash file to download b...

I still don't get how is that related to your location's latitude... It's always below my horizon. I was dense (and opaque) enough not to get your joke! Thanks for explaining! :lol2: Ann I almost feel ashamed not to realise what he meant :? And Johnydeep's comment did help to confuse me more :ssmile:

Re: APOD: The Ñandú in the Milky Way (2023 Jun 20)

My skies are dark enough. The problem here is that at 38° north, the Earth is rather opaque. Umm, what do you mean by opaque? There's a deep opacity interfering with observing the Coalsack from my location. It always seems to be in the way... I still don't get how is that related to your location's...

Definitely 100% it's Cairo, the long stream is, as described in the description, the bright Nile river
Thank you, that makes sense. Now I'm wondering which direction is ISS moving to. Southeast maybe?

Re: APOD: M15: Dense Globular Star Cluster (2023 Jun 15)

There are maybe 10 stars within 10 lightyears from Earth. Imagine it being 50,000! The night sky would never be black, but instead have a ‘milky’ glow, perhaps even perpetual daylight, and be absolutely covered with stars that could shine as bright as a full moon. But (inter)stellar radiation might...

Yes, it is OK if you create an APOD channeld on APOD. That would be great! If done well, this could be considered a social media mirror similar to others that exist already. Please be sure to identify APOD and link back to the main APOD site at NASA. - RJN Thank you very much! I am already working ...

I think “ Plus Ultra is a good name for Flammarion’s book picture. It is latin and frequently used from Renaissance. It could be translated as going beyond; this is is humanity’s main driver, always going beyond Earth’s end or knowing ourselves further, and is perfectly represented in the picture. ...

How big is the explosion or the size of the nebula? If there's were a neighbouring starsystem with a earth like planet what would happen to it? The expanding cloud of material left over from the supernova now appears approximately 10 light-years (3 pc) across from Earth's perspective. That's the cu...

This video is more than fascinating, I find it emotionally moving. Beautiful picture :ssmile: but why is there a rift on it's halo? Maybe that part is blocked by something and doesn't get the energy it needs to be ionized, or maybe there is nothing to be ionized and glow at all? Well, planetary nebulas are not my forte (at all). Dactyl is so close to Ida that despite it's size, it actually looks almost as bright and big as the moon looks in our skies! And with the things I've read about it, it appears that solar eclipses possibly happen often on Ida's surface, as Dactyl cast it's shadow on the stoney asteroid. And think ab...

Re: APOD: Ida and Dactyl: Asteroid and Moon (2023 May 28)

I know the metric system has advantages, but this case I think "mile" in diameter is better. Of course, dactyl is also a foot or a finger and the Greeks counted three or ten of them. And it has two craters, named after the Dactyls Acmon and Celmis. Great photo. too. The first time this on...
