Re: APOD: Webb's Southern Ring Nebula (2022 Jul 14)

I wonder what's the BIG deal NASA folks are other people are making about that "edge-on" galaxy seen at 10 o'clock position.. Within the external sprayed cloud (orange portion), I see *at least* a couple more between 8-9 o'clock.. maybe there are more.. And unfortunately the star that expl...

I like the APOD from 10th Jan 2008 (https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap080110.html) because it shows all 3 individual and composite. Seems Ann has given same image above. I guess back then we thought the black hole at center was only 10 million times Sun mass, now we feel it's billion times, who knows in ...

At least to me (to a naked eye, without zoom), comparing center of "right top" zoomed into "right middle" - I'm a bit challenged to see how they are same.. ? :-(

I'm a bit confused (and yes, I'm going to read up relevant things online). I thought nebulae were mostly remnants after supernova explosion.. And here, the supernova hasn't happened yet (expected in next few thousand years) and the nebula is formed out of just "winds" blown from star's atm...

Normally, with naked eyes or even the telescopic photos I've seen of our milky way plane, we see bluish hue background adjacent to the plane but the thousands of stars we see there are normally seen white...

3 questions top of my head - 1) Why multiple disks ? Can there be 1, 2, many ? How many and depends on what ? 2) Why opposite side of jet is disjoint (floating) as if it has no connection with source (jet coming towards us seems more uniform comparitively) 3) Any idea if plane of disks is determinis...

I wonder if those BIG bluish/white stars (some at inner circular boundary and towards outer circular boundary of photo) are part of this GC ? Are they seen much bigger and brighter because they are closer OR they are really big supergiants ?

I'm assuming whatever is shown inside Einestien ring/circle are the copy images of real stuff outside because of gravitational lensing. If yes, after the merger is complete, I was thinking all that stuff will be cleared (copy images removed).. No ?

I'm wondering about this statement - "Of course giant elliptical galaxy M87 dominates the Virgo cluster". To me, M86 seems larger than M87. No ? Both seem to be of similar brightness and at almost same distance.. I didn't search a lot to see size, I'm just going to by my eyes. Although M87...
