Beautiful and yes, romantic view. Many thanks to all who made it possible. Perhaps I will feel that moon dust between my toes ... but only in my dreams ...

Re: APOD: The Central Magnetic Field of the... (2019 Mar 11)

First, kudos to the folks at APOD. It's an interesting pic captured by instrumentation on a program, SOFIA, that I was not aware of. Another of the bewildering array of space research programs. And secondly, kudos to the folks behind the pic. It's an impressive effort of pulling together data from d...

Re: APOD: Spiral Galaxy NGC 1512: The Inner Ring (2017 Aug 07)

I usually check in to thank the photographer/image processor for the work they've done and for their generosity. Today, though, is a stratight up selection and explanation by Drs. Nemiroff and Bonnell that evokes, for me the wonder of our universe and the technology that allows me to see it here at ...

Re: APOD: Orbiting Jupiter (2017 Jun 07)

Wanted to thank Eichstadt and Doran for making this video available to all of us. It's hard to describe my response...words like jaw dropping come to mind. Perhaps a deep sense of wonder, wonder at this world around us, wonder at the technology that is on display, and wonder at the generosity of fol...

For me this image brings a sense of wonder about the vastness and beauty of our little corner of the universe. Thank you to Taha Ghouchkanlu for this magical work and for your generosity in sharing it. Thanks also to APOD for making it available to our wider viewer community and adding great backgro...

Re: APOD: IC 4628: The Prawn Nebula (2016 Dec 09)

This is very intriguing. What a world that we live in that allows anyone to use the data from this great observatory. And also how humbling it is to think of the generosity of people to offer the results of their work for public viewing. A quick look at both the observatory search engine and the man...

Re: APOD: IC 4628: The Prawn Nebula (2016 Dec 09)

I'm amazed at the work that must have went into this. The explanation says, "...a new astronomical composition using data from the European Southern Observatory's wide field OmegaCAM and amateur images...". I want to infer that R. Colombari who is mentioned in the Image Credit took the ima...

Re: APOD: Saturn from Above (2016 Sep 25)

I'm always amazed when I look at these Cassini generated images of Saturn. The planet looks so different than ours or any of the others in our solar system. Even Jupiter, Saturn's gas planet cousin, doesn't seem as otherly. It's so ethereal, at least from an imaging standpoint. I imagine the physica...
