Re: APOD: Artemis 1: Flight Day 13 (2022 Dec 01)

I estimate that the angle of sunlight that falls on Artemis does not agree with that of the Moon and the Earth seem different angles Aaah, Sa Ji Tario, is on to them. This was all staged in a studio in San Diego and NASA is trying to fool us again! But Sa Ji Tario figured it out right away because ...

Re: APOD: SS 433: Binary Star Micro-Quasar (2020 Aug 31)

Ann: "24 seconds into the movie we get a view of the micro-quasar from a distance, and we really see those helix-shaped jets. At the same time we see the vicinity of the black hole flickering like crazy. Is that the accretion disk flickering? Or the innermost parts of the jets?" I don't un...

Re: APOD: Rotation of the Large Magellanic Cloud (2018 May 16)

Why would it have that lobe above the center? Binary centers of gravity? No. It's what orbits look like when you have what is essentially a moving center of gravity caused by tidal interactions. Effectively, all of these stars see somewhat different centers of gravity, determined not just by the co...

Re: APOD: Two Black Holes Merge (2016 Feb 12)

I am wondering what an observer would experience who is close to the black holes when they merge. A very large gravitational wave would emerge from their event horizon (?) Wouldn't this intense gravity wave distort time? Wouldn't the observer experience time dilation as the observer looked out away ...

I think it could be called an ice ball.

Re: APOD: A Plutonian Landscape (2015 Sep 18)

Some day our great, great grandchildren, or so, will walk those plains and climb those mountains. I confess to a bit of envy. I wonder if there will be some sense of loneliness. Or perhaps there will be a MacDonalds.

This is really an impressive photo.
