1999 KW4 tracked fly-by

Perfect conditions tonight for the fly-by of potentially hazardous asteroid 1999 KW4.

I managed over 2 hours of footage of this object from my observatory in Australia, and it came out really well. Hope you enjoy!

OK, I had a daft idea yesterday. It struck me that all planets, dwarf included, are huddled on this side of the sun and potentially visible at some point during the night. This sequence shows just how much the local light pollution from passers-by can dramatically enhance startrails nightscape! Leaving it to chance over such a long period does carry its risks, but I managed to get a great shot this time :)

A star trails image, I just can't do enough of them, but this time using a telephoto lens at 150mm. I'd been sat on the beach looking at the island a kilometre out and decided it may be nice to frame it up and see if I could capture the stars emerging from atmospheric extinction. How much astronomy can you get in a single photo taken from a drone! Here we see a full moon rising on Christmas day, surrounded by anti-crepuscular sun rays and on the belt of Venus (The Earth’s rising shadow).
