Re: APOD: Moon Setting Behind Teide Volcano (2018 Jun 04)

There are 1440 minutes in a day. And 720 moon disks or sun disks in a full circle. So on average in takes about 2 minutes for the moon or the sun to set or to rise. Which is more or less how long the movie is.

The 7th and 8th pictures seem to reveal earth-like water vapor clouds, but maybe it's just a matter of resemblance.
Anyway these a really gorgeous and mind blowing pictures.

Or even higher. But the caption says nearer the equator, not near, which seems like an accurate way of putting it.
Yes you're right, I didn't read carefully

't Hooft wrote the software to compute QCD. I hold this is just a delusion caused by confusing physics and information technology.

The shape reminds closely of comet 67/P.

For the rest, the resolution of attained of an object 1.8 million kms far, is just stunning.

Re: APOD: Propeller Shadows on Saturn's Rings (2016 Oct 26)

I can't exactly figure out the perspective of the image.

It seams as though there's a sort of fence of structures perpendicular to rings plane,
which I myself find pretty weird to consider.

Re: APOD: Night on Venus in Infrared from... (2016 Jun 07)

Venus has been extremely neglected by human-made probes. Considering how close it is to us, and how similar it is to the Earth in size and mass, our lack of interest in our sister planet is even more remarkable. Rather than thinking of Venus as our sister planet, however, we seem to treat it as hum...
