Mmm... il looks disproportionate higher than "500 meters high and [...] 3 to 5 kilometers apart", maybe the red and blue images are not positioned correctly?

I hadn't noticed the diffraction phenomenon at first look at all.

This is one of the most amazing pictures ever taken in the history of space exploration.
The lesson is that at different temperatures different materials can give rise to a geology comparable to that on Earth.
I wonder if there is the possibility of an alternative biology.

Image resolution

I like APOD (versus other more wallpaper oriented picture sources) because its pictures are up to date with the latest achievements in astronomy. It's informative before being spectacular. Image resolution

I'm currently using APOD as wallpaper on all my devices, phone, laptop, desktop at work.
On the wider devices I must say that the resolution of the pictures is often not adequate.
So, I wish only pictures with high resolution were published.
