Re: APOD: A Total Eclipse at the End of the World (2024 Mar 10)

So I'm afraid you're wrong. Today's APOD is most certainly not a fake. And if you find the picture unrealistic, maybe that's because you haven't been to Antarctica during a solar eclipse. Ann I suggest that you look here for the unmanipulated image: http://www.moonglow.net/eclipse/2003nov23/updates...

What a laughably bad example of photo manipulation! It is completely unrealistic.

I think it would be more accurate to refer to them as Chinese ASTROLOGERS, rather than astronomers, because that is what they were.

I find it amazing that they can measure the masses of the two merging objects and the resulting object from those spectrograms! How is it possible?

I can get the spacecraft to move, but I don't hear any sound! No problem on other videos, so not my computer at fault.

Re: APOD: NGC 253: Dusty Island Universe (2016 Nov 03)

I don't like the title of this picture. NGC253 is not an island, and it isn't the universe! But it is an island. And while it's not the Universe, it is a universe. Island universe. A lovely, poetic term with historical significance. If it is an island universe then presumably there are also mainlan...

I don't know where you get that impression! I cannot find any dictionary where it can mean anything other than an annual occurrence, which is more logical.

Four year anniversary? A bit of tautology there - it is the fourth anniversary!

Re: APOD: Three Worlds for TRAPPIST-1 (2016 May 07)

Is anyone else irritated by the lack of realism of the image? The right hand moon is blotting out the light from the sky, even though the moon is much further away, which is obviously impossible.

Re: APOD: Molecular Cloud Barnard 68 (2014 Dec 14)

It is surprising that the object is 500 LY away and yet there is not a single star in front of it. There are so many stars in that area that one would expect a few of them to be closer than the cloud.
