Re: APOD: Mars at Closest Approach 2016 (2016 Aug 09)

I processed the video too, I think has a litle bit more detail than yours (sorry if its a piece of shit, I'm a visual, not an astrophotographer), but i still tried to do as friends show me, first i used pipp, later AS2, i used 75% i think perhaps with others i'll take more, Registax, FistWork4 and ...

Re: APOD: Mars at Closest Approach 2016 (2016 Aug 09)

Hi to all, [..]Second, I know Jesus just sent a e-mail with some info (including a dropbox public folder with a video), to Robert Nemirof, I think Robert is the guy that manage this forum, i'm sure he'll post it asap, anyway, you can see the info Jesus posted in our "marginal forum" in th...

Re: APOD: Mars at Closest Approach 2016 (2016 Aug 09)

Alex; unfortunately that raw data simply does not exist. I have looked at three of his images on that Spanish forum, and every single one had a faked - sometimes even poorly faked - Hubble -infused representation of Mars on it. I'll give away the source code for AutoStakkert! if he hasn't been fakin...

Another fake one where he copy-pasted the pole from Hubble into his own image, and some other details here and there (the orientation is all wrong): http://www.astronomo.org/foro/index.php ... em;id=1217

Re: APOD: Mars at Closest Approach 2016 (2016 Aug 09)

Lol, by the way, the 2014 reprocess of Jesus has some MAJOR Photoshop errors in them: http://www.astrokraai.nl/dump/Jesus_Santos_artifacts.gif (you can see some features misaligned by a huge amount, along with some ghost images...) Well, at least his photoshopping skills got better over time apparen...

Why on earth do people do this, and even worse, have the balls to lie to you about this 'in your face' when they are caught...

Some people have some serious mental issues.

Luckily 99% of the astrophotography community is actually pretty nice...

Re: APOD: Mars at Closest Approach 2016 (2016 Aug 09)

If those are his images, that is not even remotely realistic. I'm 100% sure this is faked data. He has done it before so it seems, from a quick glance at the galary there: http://www.astronomo.org/foro/index.php?action=mgallery;sa=media;id=1475 Compare the left image supposedly from April 2014 to th...

Re: APOD: Mars at Closest Approach 2016 (2016 Aug 09)

[...] In the mean time, I look forward to seeing the original data imaged this year from around Madrid, with either a 12" ( or why not, a 14") telescope that unambiguously shows that the animation was made without any faking of the data. I can open up an SFTP server (VPS) if you need a pla...

Re: APOD: Mars at Closest Approach 2016 (2016 Aug 09)

WinJUPOS is not the issue, the image has been enhanced with high quality data that was not taken by him . That is the issue. I'm pretty sure much of the imagery is actually real (and then rendered using WinJUPOS to simulate the phases at different stages, which is all fine - if made clear of course)...

Here is a small comparison that (who other than) Stephen W. Ramsden put together clearly showing what is wrong with the APOD: http://www.astrokraai.nl/dump/13958274_10157301713345088_8887507590023416212_o.jpg click for a better view here: http://www.astrokraai.nl/dump/13958274_10157301713345088_8887...

Re: APOD: Mars at Closest Approach 2016 (2016 Aug 09)

>Very heavy processing can be another issue, as overprocessed images can look odd. That is not an issue here, the area I described (below Syrtis Major) is not heavily processed at all, but it is simply not possible to capture that kind of detail with a 14" telescope this apparition. The data lo...

Re: APOD: Mars at Closest Approach 2016 (2016 Aug 09)

I'd love to see some of the processed image stacks he used to create the map of Mars, because the resolution at for example 45 seconds into the animation, especially the area below Syrtis Major, is not consistent at all with what is possible with a 12" or a 14". Parts of the map (used in t...
