Re: APOD: Comet ZTF and Mars (2023 Feb 13)
Hi Tom! What you call a simple correction in the APOD description has a deep meaning IMHO and deserves some further toughts. As we pointed out the comet is at the right place for the date and time declared by the author but there's a whole amount of sky that doesn't show up to the West. At the time ...

Re: APOD: Central Cygnus Skyscape (2018 Aug 04)
Thanks for featuring us as APOD! For what concerns the colours, I haven't done too much except giving an initial stretch to the image and then saturate it. Surfing around the net, this area is usually strongly red. In my opinion this skyscape has some interesting OIII emissions that turn it towards ...

Re: APOD: Bright Spiral Galaxy M81 (2017 Sep 17)
The real point is that anyone who understands astronomical imaging will surely take into account that this image is a composition of data whose sampling goes from ~0.05"/px to ~1"/px. Ground based observations mixed with space data, different filters, PSF, etc... Precisely answering on the...

Yeah, that's correct. I could have removed them exactly in the way you said. I've chosen spike instead, maybe not the best choice

Re: APOD: Bright Spiral Galaxy M81 (2017 Sep 17)
Why do the brightest stars have 8 spokes, and the medium bright stars only 4? Is this an artifact of combining two different telescopes? I used StarSpikes Pro in PS to by pass, from an aesthetical point of view, the heavy blooming that was affecting the brightest stars. 8 or 4 spikes is due to this...

Re: APOD: IC 4628: The Prawn Nebula (2016 Dec 09)
Thanks so much Dan for the kind words. I would say that it is not strictly required to have deep knowledges of physics to make such compositions. The OmegaCAM manual, for instance, is just useful for understanding the sensor layout (which are the chips/filters/orientation, where are the gaps, etc......

If I am right so far then Mr./Sr. Colombari composed the image we see using both his photo and that data. If anyone knows how the process works I would be interested to hear about it. Yes, exactly. Eric and I recorded a wide field image of this area (~1.604arcsec/px) with a 350mm F3.3 astrograph + ...

In this image the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope takes a close look at the spiral galaxy NGC 4217, located 60 million light-years away from Earth. Thanks to all, first.
Probably it is some kind of dust as Judy wrote.
I should have removed them using the clone tool but the desire of publishing the image before Christmas predominated
I'll do a second "cleaned" version in few days.
Bests,
Roberto
