Re: APOD: Closest Star has Potentially Planet... (2016 Aug 25)
Don't bother to launch a probe to this planet. A complete and utter waste of effort. Why? Because it would take SO long to get there, we humans would have send MUCH MUCH better and FASTER probes later, like 10 years from now, or 110 years from now. You'd be launching museum exhibits. Not only it is...

Rendering of WISE j224607.57-052635.0, the brightest galaxy
Hi, Here is a rendering of the most luminous galaxy in the Universe just discovered, WISE J224607.57-052635.0. Its luminosity is ~3.3x10E14 Ls (note that IC 1101 with is 10E14 Ms is close to this record too). Located at 12.5 billion l.y, WISE J224607.57-052635.0 belongs to the "extremely lumino...

Re: Submissions: 2015 June
I checked the few old images of Pluto recorded by HST, and in the last 18 years, the location and albedo of main spots haven't changed much, what confirms that they are permanent formations. Rocky or icy surfaces, we will see on July 14. http://www.kirikoo.net/images/7luxorion-20150702-114045.jpg Th...

Re: Where New Horizons is
A general view of Pluto, Charon and New Horizons ... Do you realize that Charon is over half the (linear) size of Pluto? Pluto radius = 1170 km Charon radius = 603 km Yes, but the apparent size depends on many factors, the first being the distance at which are both bodies from the camera. But if yo...

Re: spotted a lonely planet at 100ly away
According sources (and telescopes used), the distance of AB Doradus moving group is 49, 63, 75 or even 100 l.y. Does it mean that the group of 30 stars is spread is a radius of 25 or 50 l.y ? and that the rogue body CFBDSIR J214947.2-040308.9 is the farest in this group ? or is there really an inacu...

Re: Rendering of rogue body CFBDSIR J214947.2 and Terzan 5
Hi Chris, Good to know that you are here also ;-) Indeed rendering the movement in a still image is not easy... ! I think that you right, all the more that at first sight there is no gas ejected by this body (contrary e.g. to exoplant Osiris), so I removed these trails. It looks better and more fami...

Re: Recent Submissions: 2012 November
A few days ago, astronomers from ESO using the CFHT and VLT, discovered a rogue body in the AB Doradus moving stellar group (ABDMG). located at about 65 l.y away (45-100 l.y). The new body is located at the edge of the group, at about 100-130 l.y. away. According to measures performed with the Keck ...

A few days ago, astronomers from ESO using the CFHT and VLT, discovered a rogue body in the AB Doradus moving stellar group (ABDMG) located 100 l.y. away. Named CFBDSIR J214947.2-040308.9 the properties of this body are not known yet with accuracy; it can be a jovian-size exoplanet or more probably ...
