I feel some of you may have missed the 2:54 minute dialogue animation at the Gale Crater link, https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/videos/a-guide-to-gale-crater. Worth watching as it seems to address some of the issues being discussed.

Thank you, again, Chris.
I was using Doppler, not cosmological. My limited sonar experience and love of trains had me on the wrong track.

APOD robot link hubblesite.org/contents/news-releases/2022/news-2022-003 lists redshift, I think, incorrectly. If I am correct, does anybody have a contact at NASA who might correct this error? “The find is a huge leap further back in time from the previous single-star record holder; detected by Hu...

If a large star could become a neutron star, then a neutron star could become a black hole, what could a black hole become? Say something 3D is changed into a 2D object, what would be its 1D counterpart? I guess I might as well ask what a 4D cat ball looks like. Quasars are like that; let alone a m...

ok, no blanket, just a sieve. Still it's miles tighter than thick radiating things like Moon surface that is in a kind of thermal equlibrium with space radiation, if we take a weighted mean of the 0.5° diameter disk of Sun (6000 K) and the rest of the sky (3 K). We first hear how cold it is on Moon...

Beautiful picture today. The tulip, to me, looks like a tulip with astounding color. Then I see a bunny, facing the right edge, and below that a donkey. I choose donkey rather than horse due to the length of the eyes to nose being shorter than on a horse, IMO.

In today's APOD of sunspots, you state " Found in solar active regions, sunspots look dark only because they are slightly cooler" I'm sorry, but it just looks like hole to me. Am I mistaken? I think it is something visible in a place where the spot would not be expected. Therefore an unde...

I would like to know the reason today's APOD is using the term CSS rather than TSS or TSS3? Neither would be confused with ISS. Just curious.

Hello every one, The title was a mistake that comes from my bad English when I sent image to APOD editors. Mr Nemiroff asked me to check texts but I did not told him to correct title and just said: “All is Ok, but I am not sure all satellites are starlink, may some other passes. Not bad idea if wri...

Beautiful photo! One of the best I've seen in the fifteen years (or so) I've been following this site. What might the person with the flashlight be doing? Nice color contrast between the Moon and Mars. The surface brightness of Mars seems to be every bit as high as the surface brightness of the Moon, even though Mars is about one and a half times as far away from the Sun as the Moon is. The Moon is a dark body. I know I've read that the Moon is as da...
