Nice series.

We lucked out and had clear sky last night. From our location in the mountains, the moon was already in totality when we rotated into view.

I wish we could depict galaxies (like the one on the right) as a giant gravity well ending in some strange object at the bottom. Maybe we could call it a" Black Drain"? No, that's not quite right… And since it developed over a long time I wish we could show it that way too. We could call ...

We had recently listened to a very informative astronomy lecture from the archives of Gresham College by Professor Carolyn Crawford about galaxies, which added to our enjoyment of this image. Educational and beautiful as well.

A bit off topic, but we just watched a documentary that showed the hardships that astronomers went thru and many attempts to photo a solar eclipse to test Einstein's theory of general relativity. Then to come here and see this beautiful image at APOD was very moving.
