Re: APOD: Yuri's Planet (2013 Apr 12)

Re: APOD: Yuri's Planet (2013 Apr 12)

Appropriate. One day after Darkened Cities, an artist's view of nighttime over large cities, the APOD is a real image of nighttime Earth: overwhelming light pollution and a sky few people see anymore. Thank you APOD editors for showing us two possible futures. Ah, but which one will we choose? I ch...

Re: APOD: Darkened City (2013 Apr 11)

For a very interesting contrast, click on the Pudong link in the first sentence of the description on the APOD page, which is also at the beginning of this page. This will take you to the Wikipedia page for Pudong and a different sort of nighttime photograph. Re: Morning and evening pictures

I have studied the apod pictures since they started. Most of them are quite interesting, especially the explanations. It lets us see beyond our normal vision. What I don't see or hear is the explaintion of the very visible brown layer of pollution that is not supposed to be there. If we continue to...

Re: APOD: Flying Over the Earth at Night (2012 Mar 05)

All I could think of watching this video was how horrible the light pollution was over practically every land mass the ISS passed over. Soon the only way anyone will be able to see the night sky at all will be to go into space themselves! Depressing, depressing, depressing! Yep that's what I ...
