Re: APOD: The Scale of the Universe Interactive (2012 Mar 12

This is a very interesting and awesome APOD. I had to update my flash player to be able to see it, but it was worth it! I thought it was funny that they included Minecraft World in there. I have never heard of the Great Attractor, the Eridanus Supervoid, or the Sloan Great Wall before. Does anyone k...

Re: Weather!

Geez, all this warm weather...and to think that I'm going skiing in the rockies this weekend! Twenty slopes at the mountain's summit are closed, and several chairlifts are shut down. Oh, well. At least there are still over a hundred other ski slopes to go on. Which means that I'll be gone starting t...

Re: Weather!

I'll bet the weather up there is a lot better than down here, Orin. We have rain, lightning, and wind like no winter has ever had before! In fact, there was a tornado warning not too far west of here, although it expired about 15 minutes ago.

Re: APOD: The Mysterious Rings of Supernova 1987A (2012 Feb

Could it be a double lensing from a bright star beyond? No. You can see the lensing effect when it is happening and what is being lensed is behind it. You wouldn't be able to see a lensing effect when a star is behind an object, because there would be no gravational effect on the light that causes ...

How could you geckzilla?! Poor lobsters that were never meant to be...

But I can't blame you. Blame the cooks who were cruel enough to cook those lobster eggs. They were the ones who, like you said, destroyed an entire generation of lobsters!

Re: What did you see in the sky tonight?

I went camping over the weekend at Monkey Mountain National Reserve, and I was far away enough from the city that I had dark skies. I saw quite a bunch there. Friday night was too cloudy, but Saturday night gave me a chance to see a lot. I saw the winter coonstellations, Venus and Jupiter, and a met...

We had an inch of snow a few days earlier, but it’s raining so it won’t last. I’m still expecting a repeat of last year’s blizzard. When will it come :?:

BMAONE23, that's an interesting story. Does anyone have power?

What if a black hole becomes a white hole? Then the black hole obviously ate too much. Compare that with a horse and sugar cubes. Not pretty at all.

Re: APOD: Dust of the Orion Nebula (2012 Feb 06)

The Great Nebula in Orion is truly an amazing sight. It's even prominent with the naked eye, so I always wonder why it's only the 42nd Messier object. M1 the Crab Nebula is much duller and harder to find. I wonder why he missed it. Probably because he started out looking for comets and recorded the...
