Well, I think Beyond was right!, 'cos all those duck babies in Moonlady's picture are actually ittle-bitty goosies . . . they're Canada Geese. Ducks certainly quack around where I live (and I'm sure they "kvack" over in Sweden too!), but wherever they are in the world, geese definitely hon...

Re: APOD: All the Water on Planet Earth (2012 May 15)
Somehow it isn't a very reassuring thought that all the water on Earth can be contained in that relatively small sphere. And considering that the drinkable freshwater element of that sphere is even smaller, it makes the vision of a future water-starved Earth look not at all far-fetched. So, rather l...

I like this cool video animation, especially the first and second clips, though I'm not so convinced by the vertical distortion of Aricia Tholus, I'd rather see it as it should be. But I did enjoy the 'exaggerated height' link :puppy: FYI to whoever it is that needs to know about these things, I see...

Re: APOD: Spiral Galaxy NGC 1672 from Hubble (2012 May 13)
This is such a beautiful picture of a spiral galaxy! Together with the picture from Saturday, these are great APODs if only because the scales and distances of what we are viewing are so mind-blowingly immense and yet so elegant too. Thanks for taking the time to write such detailed, informative pos...

Re: APOD: Shuttle Enterprise Over New York (2012 May 09)
I remember the very first time I ever saw the shuttle in it's vertical launch position, with the twin boosters and the massive central tank; the visual reminded me strongly of the Taj Mahal, it looked very exotic indeed compared to all the other rocket designs that there had been up 'til that point....

If you were able to look up from the surface of a planet going around one of those stars in that crowded cluster, the nightsky would surely look pretty bright! By my rough reckoning, going by what the the GJ catalogue says, about 100 times as many stars as we have in our neighbourhood ![Shocked ](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)
