The sun had some great filaments yesterday. They went over more than 1/4th of the sun and continued over the edge as can be seen in this image.

Re: Recent Submissions: 2012 October

Last night I used the TEC-140 to record an entire night IC1805 (Heart nebula). I imaged from about 12 midnight to 6 in the morning while I was sleeping. Results was 11 images of 30 minutes in OIII. I combined these with my earlier H-alpha images. Then I created a synthetic green channel from the H-a...

Re: Recent Submissions: 2012 August

In the last few days I was able to finish my mosaic of the Cygnus region in H-alpha. I used 4 nights for this, partly because of shifting manually the field between exposures (using thesky6 to help me). The images are made with a Canon 100mm lens @ F2.8, a geoptik adapter and my SXV-H9 camera. I use...

What if we could see h-alpha radiation?

How would the sky look like if we could see h-alpha radiation with our own eyes? This image comes close. It was made from 9 images made from my backyard using a 100mm Canon lens with a SXV-H9 ccd camera. It's the tail of the Swan (Cygnus). cygnuspanorama_cropweb.jpg The full scale can be found here:...

Last few days I have been experimenting with my Canon 100mm lens on my CCD camera. This to gain experience for imaging during my holidays in Austria. In the end I used 3 nights for this image. Re: APOD: M106 Close Up (2012 May 03)

I'm not sure about that. But when I look at the original hubble images it looks like there is indeed a sort of a pit there with less density.... It looks like the galaxy is thinner in the central part in stead of having a bulge, but I can't explain why. Maybe an astronomer can?

Re: Hubble's Hidden Treasures Contest 2012

Here is the final result of my M106 hubble processing. Unfortunately the F435W and F814W data were not clean enough to generate a good color image. So I decided to combine the Hubble data with groundbased data. This is comparable with what was done with the famous Eta Carina image of Hubble where al...
