Re: APOD: Millions of Stars in Omega Centauri (2011 Jun 15)
Fantastic Image, every star is clearly defined, millions of them! I live in the South Hemisphere so Omega Cen is almost always high in the sky. At naked eye it looks like a blurry star, with common binoculars it's a fantastic object, quite a beautiful sight. I live too far north to see Omega Centau...

I live in Buenos Aires, flights are cancelled from Ezeiza and reports said the ash cloud might reach the city tomorrow.
Hopefully it will be gone soon as the winds are blowing and there's nothing that could block it.

Thank you a lot for the comments!
I tried and tried to get Mercury and Venus as crescents but it was impossible with the focal length I used.
Happy to be at APOD, it was a great show of conjunctions during May and fighting against the weather was hard.

Yes! I would love to identify those stars, I'm not familiar with Pisces so it can take me some time on Stellarium.
A few stars were very close to Venus almost looking as satellites.
One or two of Jupiter's satellites are visible in the full resolution image.
Thanks again for the comments!

Easter Island is at 27 degrees south. I think if you could see Polaris you'd miss Easter Island by alot. Ah ha ! Thank you for your comment. Shows I've never been there and am not thinking. This raises yet another question : so if you can't see Polaris, what do you use to navigate by ? Canopus is (...

Re: Fireball or contrail?
That's a jet contrail at Sunset, if it was very large and lasted several minutes then it was probably by a big airplane. You can see many more in this google images search for "contrail at sunset" http://www.google.com.ar/images?um=1&hl=es&biw=1579&bih=1024&tbs=isch%3A1&...

It sure looks like solar eruptions, but I don't think that is what they are. If you examine the image closely, you will find that there are long cloud banks intercepting the Sun where the solar flares appear to be. At least such cloud banks are visible in the same plane as most of the "eruptio...
