Re: APOD: Conjunctions near Dawn (2012 Jun 30)

I've never seen sunlight bounced off of Venus make such a prominent reflection before. Is that reflection on the Rio del La Plata or the Samborombon Bay? I suspect the latter, to avoid the light pollution from Montevideo. Reminds me of the moon reflected off of a calm mountain lake. Great job, Ensi...

Very clever but how were Vesta & Ceres spotted? Were they expected? How were they identified. How many other enabled objects appeared because of the digital time-lapse? Hi, I'm the photographer. Thanks to NASA for choosing my photo, it made me very happy after so many days of conjunction huntin...

Re: APOD: Milky Way Over Piton de l'Eau (2012 Jun 25)

This consideration is right. So, I checked one of the original raw files (there are 12 to compose this panorama). I had a doubt about the quality of my post processing. But I confirm, on the originals, the stars are brightest in the water than in the sky. God knows why... I can think of a couple of...

Nice APOD, to think about on a Sunday morning :D I think that if life were possible in red dwarves systems then life would be so common in the Milky Way that it would had been be very hard to avoid being visited, contacted or radioed by another civilization. The fact that we are still alone makes me...

Re: How could APOD be better?

Don't touch it, don't change a single thing.
I love APOD as it is. The variation, the surprise every day, the beauty of the photos.
I wouldn't like any change at all, in fact I would vote "ignore all proposals" if there were a voting about improvements and such an option existed.

Re: APOD: Earthshine and Venus Over Sierra de... (2012 Mar 2

At what point will we actually see the crescent of Venus? I have never seen it with my binoculars. I thought with a zoomed in image like this one - I might see it. I think right now, its not a crescent anyway - its a 3rd quarter phase. I find the phase of Venus to be quite evident when viewed with ...

Re: APOD: Multicolor Venus (2012 Mar 01)

Are you sure Chris? I had the idea that Venus is on a southern declination most of the time as Mercury is (I'm sure about mercury) but maybe my thinking was wrong :D I don't see how this could be, either for Venus or for Mercury. The planets all orbit on planes tilted some small amount with respect...

Re: APOD: Multicolor Venus (2012 Mar 01)

Venus usually favous the south hemisphere observers but this is the northern venus trip in many years. I don't believe it is accurate to say that Venus favors either hemisphere. At any given time, its declination will place it north or south, but over any significant period it spends an equal amoun...

Re: APOD: Multicolor Venus (2012 Mar 01)

I really like this APOD. It's time for Venus to get some attention. Venus is approaching its maximum brightness at crescent phase, the less illuminated the bigger the apparent diameter and the brighter the planet is. By May Venus will be really bright and slim, a beautiful sight. And it's a great ti...

Excellent APOD!

I wonder what would be the average number of supernovas in the LMC, will we see another soon, in 20 years, in 50?

It's a misterious place the LMC and it has a great view of our galaxy.

This was a fantastic APOD and It brought to my mind the Large Magellan Cloud inmediately. I know the LMC is classified as an irregular galaxy but seeing this photo and the LMC I really think it's a barred galaxy (sans-spiral) but as I'm not familiar with galaxy classification parameters it probably ...

Re: APOD: The Belt of Venus Over Mercedes... (2012 Feb 07)

this is a very familiar effect to landscape painters (such as myself). in transparent watercolors and glazed oil paints, it raises the tricky problem of painting the transition from blue sky to yellow horizon without introducing any obvious green ... which in paints is produced by mixing yellow and...

Re: APOD: The Belt of Venus Over Mercedes... (2012 Feb 07)

Judging from how the crescent Moon at far right is illuminated in this image (it is illuminated on its left side), the image seems to be taken in the morning, and the dark blue Earth shadow is sinking as the Sun is rising. Hahaa! You're wrong! Argentina is in the southern hemisphere where everythin...

Hi, I'm really honored and happy to see my photo as an APOD. I've seen the belt of Venus many times but this day it was really eye catching. Maybe it is related to the presence of volcanic ashes still in the atmosphere from the chilean volcano. I was surprised to see the shadow of earth with the nak...

A projection of a photo is not a manipulation is just a geometrical projection of a real photo. If you can understand an image flipped then you can understand it projected in a sphere.
