Re: APOD: An Airplane in Front of the Moon (2010 Sep 29)
There appears to be 2 highlights along the body of the plane. Since the moon is behind the airplane, what light sources are causing these highlights? Shouldn't the airplane part of the image be just a silhouette. Please forgive me if I'm seeing things incorrectly. I'm legally blind. Note that the s...

Re: APOD: Equinox and the Iron Sun (2010 Sep 23)
Of course, in the north the days continue to grow shorter, the Sun marching lower in the sky as winter approaches. Summer is now a memory. :| Chanson D'Adventure I heard in Addison's Walk a bird sing clear ‘This year the summer will come true. This year. This year. ‘Winds will not strip the blossom...

It is located in the lower right hand portion of the picture, just a bit above a mountain like structure protruding up from the bottom right...

Re: APOD: The Annotated Galactic Center (2010 Aug 31)
How possible would it be to "three-dimensionalize" this image? Or even better, the one linked-to below. Perhaps either viewable with red/blue glasses, or as a stereo image (to avoid color issues)? I know there's some uncertainty in the stellar distances, and there's more than a heck of a l...

Re: APOD: The Local Fluff (2010 Aug 29)
I have trouble comprehending how the ISM can have such low density yet still have such a high temperature. The same thing is true of the Earth's thermosphere: very hot, but would be "felt" as very cold because it's so rarefied. Wouldn't the heat of an isolated hydrogen atom radiate away ve...
