Re: APOD: Andromeda Rising over Colombia (2016 Apr 19)
I agree that overly aggressive processing of deep sky images is the norm these days, creating cartoon like images just for effect. Fortunately it would seem that the APOD editors are not overly impressed by this type of processing. "Fake" diffraction spikes, however, are often represented ...

Re: APOD: Andromeda Rising over Colombia (2016 Apr 19)
I note that this really isn't an issue with deep-sky images. The only time we've had issues it has involved images made from the ground, typically with rather ordinary photographic equipment. In most cases, just providing a video or providing a single raw image would resolve the matter. However, th...

Re: Recent Submissions: 2012 September
I have retired as a commentator here, but I have to say that I am extremely impressed by Rolf Wahl Olsen's portrait of globular clusters in NGC 7252 at 220 million light-years away! :D  Thanks for telling us about these monster globular clusters as well, Rolf! :D While I'm at it, I mu...

Re: Recent Submissions: 2010 August 12-15
Well, wow. For once there is a planetary nebula image that I like. I wonder if it is true color. The star colors appear pretty good, although some stars seem to have a suspiciously saturated blue color. Ann Thanks Ann. Though I did not balance on a G2V star, the color should be fairly true, though ...
