I voted 'No' but maybe I have seen it before and simply forgotten, given that I've been a regular APOD visitor since the late '90's.

Re: APOD: Andromeda Rising over the Alps (2015 Aug 17)
Never seen Andromeda, but it is my #1 on my bucket list of deep sky targets.
I live right down the 'bottom' of Australia, so M31 is below our northern horizon, so I always love seeing pictures of our 'cosmic neighbor'.

Re: APOD: Bright Planetary Nebula NGC 7027... (2013 Aug 26)
My first thought was that it looks like a pillow, so I'll say Pillow Nebula.
But I'm sure with different filters etc., it could be seen as something else entirely.

Re: APOD: Earth and Moon from Saturn (2013 Jul 22)
Quite a humbling image when you think about it - to me even more so than other earth images such as the famous Blue Marble, I think because of the immense distance away from us that this images has been taken.

More interested in science in general - possibly not.
But more interested in astronomy specifically - without a doubt!
Keep up the good work.

It was my first visual Aurora and I was overwhelmed with emotions. Alex Cherney Awesome imagery Alex, congratulations! Oh man, I wish I had have known about this. I've always wanted to see an aurora (it's #1 on my 'bucket list') and I only live a few kilometres away from Flinders in the outer SE su...

Re: APOD: IC 2118: The Witch Head Nebula (2012 Jan 17)
G'day all.
Pardon my ignorance here but I cannot, for the life of me, identify the "witches head" in this APOD?
Should I be standing on my head to see it, or perhaps on my left ear (yes, I've tried both!) but still can't seem to see anything resembling a witch...
Thanks in advance.

After the mention of a USA flag (be it on the spacesuit or elsewhere) I went back and had another look... but couldn't find anything.
So I'll stick by my original count: 4x Canadian flags and 1x Japanese flag.
Cheers!

I didn't notice those bad pixels till I had already sent in my image... Ahh, thanks for the confirmation Chris - thought it may have been special indicators of some sort! As for the rotation, my bad...I connected the camera and forgot to rotate it back into a proper position...blame it on the late ...

I'm sure one of those dots is a small cross - but yes, this is what I am referring to.owlice wrote:Are these what you see?

Re: APOD: The Solstice Moon s Eclipse (2010 Dec 23)
It is an extraordinary picture of the eclipse. Agreed - my compliments to the photographer. :) When I clicked on the image to view the largest resolution version, I noticed some small dots and an 'x' above and to the right of the centre of the moon. I would be interested to know what these markings...

How long to travel one light year?
I'm just curious to know...
If a manned space flight were launched into outer space, how long would it take the rocket/capsule/module (sorry, not sure of the correct terminology) to travel one light year?
